  • Purchased an XBOX 360 Premium w/two wireless controllers, a/v cable, optical cable, and four games: Oblivion, GRAW, Quake 4 and Dead Or Alive 4.

Daaavo was the Buyer on May 7, 2006 AnandTech

I want to start this out by saying that although this is a positive eval, it would behoove you to read my entire evaluation of this deal. Also, everything you see within this eval that has quotes around it, is an exact cut/paste from my PM history.

Here is how it went down: I saw Omar?ÇÖs posting for the XBOX360 package on AT.

    Xbox360 Premium w/4 games

    xbox 360 console w/hard drive
    2 wireless controllers(1 unopened)
    1 unopened a/v cable
1 unopened optical cable(for connecting surround sound speakers)
    Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
    Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
    Quake 4
    Dead or Alive 4
    $575

I PM?ÇÖed him about the condition, if he had any pictures, if he had all the documentation, the date it was purchased and if he had the receipt. He replied that it was in perfect condition, that he had all the documentation, he?ÇÖd bought Tuesday of that week, and that ?Ç£I have the receipt around here somewhere.?Ç¥

I then asked him if $575 was his bottom dollar and the next day he replied saying that he?ÇÖd be willing to sell it to me for $550 if I wanted it. I said ?Ç£As long as you found the receipt, I\'ll take it for $550. How soon can you send it out??Ç¥

While I was waiting for him to get back in touch with me, I kept thinking of his user name, BoBo T Lesnar, and how it sounded familiar....but in a bad way. So I asked him, ?Ç£Hey man, Were you involved with a bad trade here on AT? I\'ve been thinking about this XBOX360 deal and for some reason your name rings a bell in regards to some trade that went amiss. But I\'ve searched and can\'t find anything. Am I out of my mind? I\'m honestly not trying to make any wild accusations.?Ç¥ I then went on to ask him if he?ÇÖd be willing to take half of the money up front, with the other half once I received it. He replied back that he was involved in a trade where he had to back out of the deal. I found the thread in question and read through it....it didn?ÇÖt seem like that big of a deal to me.

Anyway, he agrees to the half up front deal and I Paypal him.

Three days later the box shows, and here is the PM I sent to him:

?Ç£I just got home from work a bit ago, and the xbox was here. I have opened it, but have not hooked it up.

First thing, where is the receipt? I looked through all the paperwork and did not see it, but maybe you tucked it away somewhere I haven\'t seen.

Second, this was your original listing (it\'s also the listing you still have on HardOCP):

    xbox 360 console w/hard drive
    2 wireless controllers(1 unopened)
    1 unopened a/v cable
1 unopened optical cable(for connecting surround sound speakers)
    Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
    Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
    Quake 4
    Dead or Alive 4

The second controller was not sealed. What happened there and why wasn\'t it mentioned when you edited your post?

    Thanks,

    dave?Ç¥

Not only was the receipt missing, but the second wireless controller was opened and his post on AT was edited from what he originally listed it as.

Omar replied back that he forgot to put the receipt in the package and something about how some friends came over and wanted to play, so he opened the other controller.

I got up the next morning before work and PM?ÇÖed him that I needed the receipt and that it was a ?Ç£deal killer?Ç¥ for me if I did not get it. I also emailed him from work to reemphasize the importance of it, but when I got home I had two PM?ÇÖs. The first one said ?Ç£I have some bad news...I cannot find the receipt...I think I may have thrown it away when I was cleaning. Let me know what you wanted to do. Thanks.?Ç¥

Needless to say, I was pissed. I have never, ever, had a deal go sideways like this. The second PM said, ?Ç£Since I don\'t have the receipt I can lower the price by $40 bucks????Ç¥ .

I PM?ÇÖed him back asking if there was no chance of him coming up with the receipt, and he responded with something like he had searched high and low to no avail. My first instinct was to pack the whole thing up and send it back to him. But I had already given it to my 9yr old son as a present. And he and his buddies were already playing the heck out of it. So after thinking about it for a bit, I asked him if he would be willing to knock $50 off the price. He agreed and I sent the remaining funds via Paypal. So I wound up paying $500 for the deal listed above.

The bottom line is this: I got a killer deal on a XBOX360 combo. Would I deal with Omar again? I would, but I would also check, and double check, whatever it was he said he was selling to be sure it was in the same condition he listed it as.
